Using the Christian Science Calculator

Much is reported daily about the economy; much emphasis is placed on financial reports coming out monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc.   Ask yourself….wouldn’t it be better to deny the claim of the laws of economy that say our supply is governed by human circumstances or luck, and, instead, see that there is a steadfast and unchanging divine law of supply and demand, God meeting all our needs?

In this week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson, we read the account (you can read it, Matthew 14:14-21) of feeding the multitude with five loaves of bread and two fishes.  What an inspiring demonstration of God supplying the needs of 5000 men (plus women and children) with just those loaves and fishes!  And, they even had 12 basketfuls left over!  How is that possible?  Even with today’s “new math,” my mental calculator can’t figure that one out unless I think about supply from a spiritual understanding!  Today, the ‘Christian Science Calculator’ shows us how to overcome the belief in lack, just as Jesus’ disciples had to do at his instruction that day.  I base this “calculator” on a quote by Mary Baker Eddy in her book called Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.  It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good.”  WOW!  That last sentence is the calculator’s spiritual equation that “supply equals need” and “ALL MANKIND” means everyone is receiving all good.  Back to the story–this crowd didn’t just get a crumb to eat, the Bible said they were filled that day…and had leftovers.  That’s the kind of calculator I want to use for my daily needs!

The Bible tells us that we can turn to God in prayer, confident that He can supply whatever we need.   In Phillipians we read, “my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  Doesn’t this suggest: don’t be fearful or anxious concerning your finances or the economy – instead, know God is always in control and that man is never outside of the care of God, divine Mind.  Mary Baker Eddy, the discover of Christian Science writes: “It is the all-hearing and all-knowing Mind, to whom each need of man is always known and by whom it will be supplied.”
